Our Awards Luncheon takes place amidst the stunning holiday backdrop of the Westin Washington Dulles Hotel. Along with holiday cheer and Broadway entertainment, we will celebrate amazing and newsworthy achievements of some of our region. This year’s winners each have a compelling story. The 2016 award categories are Arts, Community, EMS, Global, Health, Hospitality, Transportation, Veteran, Workforce, & Youth.
2016 Veteran Star Award was present to Col Bob Shawn, a fighter pilot of three wars.
2016 Transportation Start went to Patty Nicoson for her leadership in bringing the Silver Line to Dulles and beyond.
The 2016 Hospitality Star went to The National Conference Center was recognized for its recent successes and multiple awards.
The 2016 Arts Award was awarded to Signe Friedrichs and Arts Herndon for successfully uniting two arts organizations and producing outstanding programming.
The 2016 Health & Wellness Star went to Inova's Institute for Personalized Health for leading the way in the integration of genomics into personalized medicine.
2016 Global Star was awarded to TriVision Creative recognizing their winning of the large Department of Commerce marking bid, as well as for their signal campaign for Afghan Women's Rights.
2016 Workforce Award was awarded to Madhu Garlanka and Allwyn Corporation for their outstanding software app GetAJob that links employers with entry-level applicants in the Dulles footprint.
The 2016 Valor Award was presented to James Estep, who volunteers with both the Vienna Volunteer Five Department and Sterling Rescue.
A special Youth Award was presented by Loudoun County Chair Phyllis Randall to Gavin Stone and Cameron Rogers, students from Riverside High, who demonstrated uncommon bravery and maturity at the scene of a fatal car crash.

2015 Public Service Star:
Delegate Tom Rust, 86th District, currently serving as Chairman of the House of Delegates Transportation Committee. He has given his life to public service, including almost 20 years as Mayor of Herndon and another 12 years as Delegate. Tom has announced his retirement for this year.
2015 Veterans Star:
Our veterans are special people and there were years when we did not give them the thanks they deserved. Today we honor USAF Col. (Retired) Paul Patton of CACI, a role model for all in both his military and business careers. Paul is an incorporator and immediate past chairman of the board of POISE Foundation, the first African American developed and managed Community Charitable Foundation in Pennsylvania. Paul was in the military when he incorporated the foundation and served on the board for several years while in uniform.

2015 Community Stars:
Friday Night Live! team, represented by Doug and Annie Downer, and Laura and George Price. They were miracle workers, organizing the entire drink concessions operation for the World Police and Fire Games this summer, filling 391 shifts with volunteers.
2015 Innovation Stars:
The World Police and Fire Games, represented by Bruce Blechl and Jerome Williams, who participated in the Stockholm Games and sold the idea to Fairfax County. Also to Bill Knight and Barry Biggar, who took on the leadership of making the dream a reality.
2015 STEM Star:
The Children's Science Center, which opened its new Lab at Fair Oaks Mall this summer. The lab is a major addition to our region's ability to make science fun and encourage a new generation of STEM learners.
