After all the dining and shopping, stop and think.  There are children in Fairfax and Prince William Counties and in the City of Alexandria, some of the wealthiest cities and counties in the country, who are going to be hungry while we are feasting and celebrating.

Rising prices affect us all.  The students and their families that are served by Assistance League of Northern Virginia ("AL") feel that impact most acutely.  Increasing numbers of students need help.  Assistance League of Northern Virginia can only serve a small percentage of those students.  Moreover, the costs AL incurs to provide its services have also increased.

Assistance League's philanthropic programs provide 1680 bags of food each month during the school year to students at 6 Title 1 elementary schools in Fairfax County, Prince William County and the City of Alexandria  so they are not hungry over the weekend when school-supplied meals aren't available.  AL provides grocery gift cards to a seventh school during the school year and to all seven schools during the summer.  AL also provides new clothing, coats, sneakers, toiletries and books throughout the school year.  On average, AL returns 87% of all monies raised to our communities.  Thus donors are assured that the money they give goes directly back to the community.

Our Weekend Food for Kids program is incredibly important.  One school counselor reported that a family in her school waited all week for their grocery gift card so that they could buy a chicken.  This provides badly needed protein to a family who normally lives on a diet of rice, beans and a little cheese!

Won't you help?  Join Giving Tuesday's global generosity movement by contributing to AL and become a hero or heroine to a children in need.  HELP US HELP THEM!  Go to alnv.org and DONATE.  Every donation helps.  Give up that latte and help a child in need.
