Shelter House to Expand Shelter Services to Loudoun County, Virginia

RESTON, VAShelter House has announced its shelter services will expand to Loudoun County, VA.  Services currently provided by the center will not change, and include:

  • Drop-in Day Services: This program provides a daytime place for Loudoun residents who are unsheltered to access laundry facilities, showers and a computer lab; to have a meal; and to receive information about community programs and resources.
  • Emergency Homeless Shelter: This shelter is open to Loudoun residents aged 18 and older and provides temporary shelter along with individualized case management to assist individuals and families as they stabilize their housing situation.
  • Hypothermia Shelter (formerly known as Cold Weather Shelter): This shelter is open to single adults aged 18 and older in the community who are experiencing a housing crisis resulting in homelessness. The shelter, which provides a warm indoor sleeping environment, meals, and shower facilities during the winter months, is open from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., seven nights a week through March 31, 2022. The shelter also provides information on other community resources.

“I am so honored to announce that Shelter House will be expanding our critical services to Loudoun County”, said Joe Meyer, Shelter House Executive Director and CEO. “Over the last 40 years, we have been dedicated to assisting thousands of our most vulnerable neighbors in Fairfax County, providing so many a safe and sustainable place to call home – but our work is far from being done. As a Premier regional homeless agency, we proudly receive the partnership with Loudoun County to further address the needs and create solutions for those experiencing homelessness.”

The opportunity arose when Loudoun County Government released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to operate their Homeless Services Center. Over the next two months, dedicated Shelter House staff and the Board of Directors will be working closely with the current operator for a successful transition.

Shelter House was awarded the contract on December 2, 2021 and all operations and services will be transitioned to Shelter House on February 1, 2022.

More information about services available to those experiencing homelessness in Loudoun County may be found aloudoun.gov/HomelessServices or by calling 703-777-0420. For further questions, inquiries can be made to: [email protected].
